My wife and I went on NCL's Getaway this past week, it was our first vacation in 4 years so we looked forward to it very much. We had taken, roughly, about a dozen cruises before so we knew what to expect, and this being a new ship, the flagship of NCL, we had big expectations. We arrived at the port(Miami) at about 11AM and we able to go past security, and get our boarding cards in a few minutes, we were allowed to board at 11:30AM. Our cabin, a mini-suite with balcony, was extremely roomy, with lots of room for storage. The bathroom had a roomy shower with double sinks.
The service on the ship was the best we've seen, and we've traveled on Royal Caribbean, MSC, and others. When arriving back to the ship from being in a port, they greet you with ice cold mini towels to cool you down, along with music, and refreshments, even cold Jello bites. On the other hand, we were not too happy with the food, we even went to some of the specialty restaurants, the French and Italian restaurants were worth the extra co-payment, $15-$20 per person, but the Seafood Restaurant, where, for a $39 co-payment per person, I expected a complete Lobster tail, the best we got was Ricotta with a few pieces of Lobster.
Another let-down was the Illusionarium experience, which, for a $25 co-payment, included dinner and a show. They serve the dinner while the show is going on, in the dark, and the show, it is merely a magic show, sewing ladies in half, and making doves appear and disappear, this has been done for 100 years. It was a nice show, but over hyped, and not worth the co-payment. Instead, the ship offered two Broadway shows, complimentary, Burn The Floor, and Legally Blonde, both are not to be missed, they were glorious.
