More cabins = more people but the common areas are not bigger.

We typically cruise on the Fantasy class, which although older & smaller, are definitely laid out better! The common areas are big enough to handle the number of guests. The crew to guest ratio is also perfect & the ships stay spotless. We wanted to try a bigger/newer ship to see what we thought. Bigger, only by floors of cabins. The common areas are still pretty much the same size, the pool area (lido) actually felt much smaller. The chairs were always completely full, the Serenity deck had the same problem. It was bigger than the smaller boats but not enough to accommodate the hordes of people. Everything was full all of the time on the Sunshine. The crew could not keep up, tables were always dirty, they were always out of stuff& the bathrooms were messy. I could see that they were working hard, but like I said, the ratio is off.

The layout of the Sunshine is so strange. The hallways are skinny, the lido deck buffet/dining area has buffet areas out in the middle of the floor as well as against the walls with ways to serve beginning at both ends of the areas so there is no "flow" for the traffic, it is a wild. I think a good architect could really help them out with that, gee I can figure that out! The floors on the lido around guys burger & the burrito place were slick as glass. I must have seen 20 people slip or fall. Crazy! The walkways around those areas were very thin too, these 1/2 walls had been put up & so if anyone was larger in size, everyone would have to wait for them to pass or slide through the walkways. This was actually all over the place, skinny walkways for large crowds, made no sense. I think it made people grumpy, because most of them were, which I have never encountered on a cruise ship.

The air conditioning had to have broken, surely the poor layout hasn't effected the temperature, but maybe so. Anyway, it was VERY hot in various places.

Cabin Review

Cabin interior

We had an 8th floor interior cabin in the front of the ship. Our room steward & his peeps were all fantastic! Our room was great, I do like the updates in the room, although it did seem much smaller. The toilets are at an angle. I am a pretty small person but I could see this being really uncomfy for a larger or tall person, they were be partially in the shower.
