We recently went on a cruise on the Carnival Paradise and over all the cruise was good but not great. I will attempt to break it down logically. This would not have been my first choice, but was force to for a wedding.

Ship: The ship is older but contrary to some reviews Carnival does do a good job with what they have and keep a pretty tidy ship. The ship's decor is a bit dated and the pools are a bit old but overall the accommodations are on par with a three to four star hotel. The word on the ship is the boat is being 'dried docked' end of year to be renovated. Hope that is the case because it needs it!

Room: We got a suite because it was my wife, my 4 year old and I. It was cheaper and easier to do this and any expert cruiser knows the rooms are pretty darn small otherwise. The suite is a bit smaller than a regular hotel room. They have a balcony that honestly made the trip! The bed can be configured into two twins or a king. The couch pulls out and compared to the other rooms, the suite has decent space. Worth the money, sure. our steward Semadi rocked!
