This was our second cruise to Alaska (first in 2007 on Norwegian Pearl) and it was the same itinerary. It is also our second Princess. The Golden reminded us of the Caribbean Princess that we sailed on in February 2013. Embarkation was great.. well organized and efficient. We arrived around 11:15 and stepped aboard at 12:02 PM. We were told we could go to our room immediately so after checking it out (we had an obstructed window view) we had a great lunch at the buffet. We went back to the room and our luggage was already in front of the door. We got organized, met our room steward and then set out to explore and look for the rest of our party. The muster was informative and also well organized. No issues. I noticed it was very quiet with no music or anything going on at sail away. It was just not very exciting. We finally met up with our group and because they were late and very tired, we ate at the buffet for dinner. It was OK..

We bought the coffee card because we are big coffee drinkers as opposed to alcohol consumers. Sunday was great as the NFL package was on the ship and the guys watched the game at a few of the bars and on the big screen by the pool. We noticed several staff polishing the floors and hand rails over the week. Our room was good size with a lot of storage space. The refrigerator did not get too cold, but served our needs. All the public areas appeared clean and all the staff were pleasant and did not bug us to buy drinks etc. We ate at the dining room as a group twice and alone (the 2 of us) twice since we had any time dining and never waited for a table. The lines at the buffet were manageable and I don't remember any issues with waiting. We had fresh fruit every AM. We gave the food in the dining room an A- and the food in the buffet a B. The ice cream station was good, but the pizza in the grill area and the veggie burger were not good.

The ship had the usual games, art auction etc. But the music was really not very good. No jazz or blues. one night we caught the tail end of a jazz set.. but it was only about 5 minutes worth! The shows were good. Loved the comedian, the Hawley magic show (which we had already seen on Caribbean Princess) and the British invasion music show was good. The show the second last night was good for us seniors (Stardust) but I would assume when the ship gets a younger crowd that show would have to go as others in our party really didn't care for it. The bad parts were the short time in Ketchikan. It was pouring rain so us girls did the shopping and my hubby took the seaplane excursion. The trip to Victoria BC was a waste.. just no time and arrived too late. In all the excursions to Juneau and Skagway were good, but too expensive for what they were. The shopping was good as it was the last cruise of the year for Princess and the other cruise lines were ending the next week so there were lots of bargains. We got off the ship at 8 AM with Express Walk off and it was fantastic. No hold ups and we were at the airport by 9AM.

Cabin Review

Cabin G

Room was great. A nice size and I liked the light from the window even if obstructed. The shower had instantly hot water and was strong. Shampoo/Conditioner and soap was supplied in the pumps in the shower. Bathroom was clean as was the room.
