This was our 7th Carnival cruise, 1st from Miami. We gambled and flew from Dallas Saturday morning for our 4PM sailing. Luckily there were no delays and following the advice of our travel agent taking a taxi to the pier was a breeze and our driver charged a flat $25 to take us there. He agreed to a stop for us to pick up Dr. Pepper so that was worth it since a shuttle would not have done that. We have never done Faster To The Fun and our travel agent said not to waste our $$; glad I was never able to purchase that because from stepping out of the cab to buying our Cheers package took about 15 minutes. We had no excursion planned that would have warranted taking the 1st tender so we saved $49 right off the bat. We had to wait until 1:30 to go tour cabin but that gave us the chance to have our 1st umbrella drink. We were in our cabin unpacking our carry-ons at 1:30. The cabin was typical balcony, clean & ready. Our 1st lunch was at Guy's Burgers, a 1st for us. That was a great burger! The muster drill was awful; lined up like 2nd graders on an un-air-conditioned deck for too long. It's much better on the Magic where we went to cocktail lounges and got to sit. Our one suitcase arrived before the drill at 4PM so bonus there. We always do 2nd seating main dining and I have to say I miss the tablecloths and don't think American Table added anything. The menu looks different but the principal is the same; rotating entrees with basic things offered every night. I was not impressed with the food at all - especially the flat iron steak. I don't know what cut of meat it was but it was very disappointing. We never paid the $20 surcharge to try some of the other entrees and also never tried the island dinner options. Service was great however. We only went to comedy shows (adult) and were entertained but not wildly so. I did hear another passenger say they were impressed with the rock show.

The ports were great. Had great luck in the casino the 1st day and then it was downhill. I have never been at such a cold craps table in my life! I swear there was a magnet underneath with loaded dice. Everyone was skittish and I never saw anyone win big as on past cruises. Usually you can't get on the craps table but there were many times this one was empty except for the dealers. We only saw our cabin steward twice and he was all business. Our (minimal) requests were handled promptly so that was not a deal breaker for us. Getting off the ship was smooth as was getting a taxi back to the airport. All in all a relaxing vacation for hubby and I.

I thought the location was perfect! We could hear the band in the casino so if you are early to bed that could be problematic. It was a VERY easy walk down to the casio, the Golden dining room, and the laundromat. There was no rocking and everything worked fine.
