Sail Date: Feb 2007

My wife and I sailed on the Westerdam over Superbowl Sunday. As anyone who watched the Super Bowl, it was raining in Southern Florida that Sunday. We flew in from California on Saturday. We stayed at the Best Western in Ft. Lauderdale and paid a ridiculous price because of the Super Bowl. They doubled their rates that weekend. We took the hotel shuttle to the port on Sunday. The port was busy with 7 ships in port.

Embarkation was a breeze as we had a Deluxe Suite which had its own area. We were on the ship by 12:30. Our room was ready by 1:30. This was our 20th cruise, our 7th with HAL. My wife and I are 53 and 52 respectively. We sailed first with HAL on the Noordaam in 1985 on a Mexican Rivera cruise. We went through a hurricane on that cruise and as a result, I fell in love with cruising. The deluxe suites on board the Westerdaam are outstanding. The beds are the most comfortable beds I have slept on period The dressing area was great as was the bathroom.

The negative of the cruise was that my wife came down with an intestinal virus that affected about 100 passengers. She was sick for 2 full days. (Tortola and St. Martin). Because she was sick, I also was quarantined so I couldn't get off at Tortola. I released at 9:30 Thursday morning in St Martins since I didn't show any signs of the illness. Despite my wife's two days of hell, she loved the cruise and would go back again.
