I booked this sailing with a small group of friends as an end-of-summer trip. We stayed at the Residence Inn on Austronaut Blvd. I highly recommend this hotel, it is about 5 minutes from the port. It's so close you can see the smoke stacks of the ships from the hotel! The hotel does offer a shuttle to the port but you must reserve your spot the night before and it does not leave the hotel until about noon My friends and I wanted to be on board as early as possible, so we called a cab.

Embarkation was smooth and quick. The staff was helpful and friendly, and we went from check in straight onto the ship! The condition of the ship, in a word, was excellent. Every surface gleamed and she seemed brand new! All public areas are well-kept and although the ship is nearing 10 years old I was hard-pressed to find any wear and tear.

The service we received from the staff aboard Freedom of the Seas was absolutely top-notch. If you are sailing onboard Freedom, make sure to stop by the Bull & Bear Pub and have a drink with Ayanna and an absolute MUST is Boleros. Suzette and Danielle are amazing servers and will make you feel like a part of the family, and Roger behind the bar is great! The main dining room was an over-all good experience as well. The my-time dining reservations crew was a little bit hit-or-miss. Most nights we could not get the time we requested, and they would recommend we make our reservation the day before. Well I thought the point of my-time dining was to be able to have dinner on your own schedule! Anyway, thanks to our server Rose and assistant server Joseph the dining experience was truly wonderful. If you have sailed with Royal at any point in the last year or so you already know how the food was, as the menus are the same fleet-wide. I will say that the food was above-average if not great.

Cabin Review

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

Great room! 1236 is at the very front of the ship on Deck 10, right near the officers' area and the bridge. Looking at the deck plans you can see that this cabin is right beneath the gym/spa area and one deck down from the pool and adult-only areas. Initially we were worried about noise from those areas but this cabin is very quiet! No noise bleeds down from Deck 11 above. This stateroom is right near the foreward elevators and stairs, so is very convenient to everything! While we found that most public venues we frequented were towards the aft of the ship, it was a quick trip down the elevators to Deck 5 and you can walk up and down the Promenade to get where you want to go.The room is very clean and stateroom attendant John is great!1236 connects with 1238. We had both rooms and so we had the balcohgives you an unimpeded view of the water. To the aft you can see one of the cantilevered hot tubs one deck up. Looking forward, you will see the starbord bridge wing and, if you are coming into or out of port, maybe the captain!
