We were on the Norwegian Dawn for an eight day/seven night Boston-Bermuda cruise on September 5, 2014. We were celebrating a 50th birthday with a group of 27 friends. IT WAS AMAZING!! In fact, this cruise and itinerary is the most relaxing cruise ever. We have cruised on several cruise lines prior to this and truly like the Free Style Norwegian offers. We also enjoy the other cruise-lines, however, the Free style is perfect for this cruise.

The Norwegian Dawn is a beautiful ship although there are some signs of aging. The ship was very clean and we did not run into any issues. We never had to call the front desk or stateroom attendant nor call management for anything. Our stateroom attendant always made sure our ice bucket was filled. We brought a case of water with us and when we ran out of bottled water we used the water from our sink faucet. This is when we realized we did not need to bring bottled water with us. The water on board is very good. The next time, I’ll leave the case of water at home. The crew and officers were very friendly.

Embarkation and Disembarkation was very smooth. We arrived at the Boston cruise port at approximately 11:30AM and we were allowed to go up the escalator to proceed to the check-in counter. We took the advice we had found on cruise-critic and had our E-Docs preprinted and placed luggage tags on our luggage. There was a port security person checking passports/Photo ID’s at the escalator. Once you arrive on the second floor you were directed to go through the security checkpoint. Afterwards, there was another person handing out Embarkation tickets that had your group number printed on them. The check-in process was quick and easy. Once you receive your room card you were directed to have a seat in the waiting area. Immediately before you reach the waiting area there was a photographer to take your embarkation photo. If you’re a ham like me, you’ll definitely want to have your photo taken, however, do not wear anything green. The screen was one those green screens and if you wear green the photo will come out funky. After the photo, we proceeded to waiting area. People were boarded by the group number handed to you after going through the security checkpoint. If you did not receive a group number then you’ll have to wait until they call for general boarding. NCL called for VIP folks first, then Gold and Silver Latitude members, followed by group numbers starting at group 1. Please be patient while waiting for your group number to be called. It really went by fast. We were on board by 12:30PM.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

The mini suite was very spacious for two people with plenty of storage space. Our room was immaculate with everything in working order. There were plenty of hangers to hang your clothes even though we always bring extra. We always over pack. The balcony was comfortable with two chairs and a small table. Since we had a room towards the aft of the ship, we did not have an overhang so we got plenty of sun (which we like) If you prefer balcony to be more shady, I would recommend to get a mid ship balcony room. The flat screen TV had a very bright red light on it that was annoying when trying to sleep. We would rotate the TV so the red light was facing the balcony. Other than that the room was great.
