Our trip to Alaska was fantastic from beginning to end; I really can't say enough good things about the entire experience. Some highlights:
Staff: The cruise staff was exceptional - polite, helpful, and happy to go the extra mile. Not only did they fix things, but they noticed and fixed them without us having to mention it! When we first got onboard, one of the bulbs in our stateroom was burned out - not a big deal, we figured we'd mention it if we got around to it. It was magically fixed by the next afternoon. The cruise line also has things down to a science - everything ran incredibly smoothly, from embarkation to making dinner reservations.
Ship: The Golden Princess is beautiful - the Piazza is particularly striking, but the whole boat is well laid out and very pretty. The artwork and art gallery were particularly nice, since they kept rotating different paintings through. The library is surprisingly well stocked. The boat itself is spacious enough that even with all the other passengers, it never felt crowded - it was easy to find an empty hot tub, or couch by a window.
Cabin Review
Our cabin was great - at the end of a hallway, so we didn't get any traffic noise. It was under the stage for the main theater, so when a show was opening, you could hear the music from that, but that never happened past 10pm or before noon. On early port days, though, we did get woken up by the bow thrusters, which were right underneath our room. Despite being pretty far forward, the forward-back motion of the ship was never a problem (the side-to-side did get a bit exciting one night). Walking through the art gallery every day was really nice, as was having hot cocoa available 24 hours a day just down the hallway.
