Our first cruise to Norway was 50 years ago and our recent voyage to Shetland & Norway aboard Discovery was our sixth cruise, so we are neither novices nor frequent cruisers.
We were aware of the vessel's age and some comments about 'tired' - however our own experience was that all the public areas of the ship we visited ( and I think we found them all) were smart, attractive, in good condition and spotlessly clean. The crew were constantly cleaning, sweeping and vacuuming. Sanitising dispensers were everywhere and in addition hand held dispensers were wielded by the stewards when one approached any dining zone. Good Work!
The handling staff at the Liverpool Cruise Terminal were a model of pro-active helpfulness and this set the tone for the voyage. All of Discovery's cabin & catering staff with whom we had regular dealings were very friendly, willing & helpful, often providing assistance just before we realised we needed it!
Cabin was well planned, comfortable, very clean, unobstructed view through twin windows.
