Leading up to trip was a little worried that Millennium's Solsticization was overrated. We sailed on Millennium in 2010 in the Caribbean - it was a great trip, 10 nights, so many memorable excursions in the interesting, less-traveled ports - but Millennium was definitely old and tired, in great need of refurbishing. Reviews said ship still looked old but we took a chance because we got a great deal (essentially 2 for 1) and it fit our schedule. The ship is so much better after the solsticization that I can't understand those who wrote that it still looks worn. Yes, it's not completely up-to-date like a new ship but given that it was launched in 2000 this is as good as it will get. Everything feels new and bright and that makes all the difference. So for those worried about the quality of a 14 year old ship, please rest assured that you'll not have a problem with the facilities.

The cruise itself was excellent. My wife and I took Rhapsody in Alaska, roundtrip from Vancouver, in 2000. The one way north from Vancouver to Seward was so much better. I recommend the north route because you get to sail away from Vancouver, which is, I assume much more scenic and memorable than sailing out of Seward. This time we were back with our 11 year old daughters. We were fortunate to have good weather through most of the trip - really only one day of rain in Ketchikan when we were walking thru a rainforest anyway. Whale watching in Icy Strait Point was memorable, kids loved kayaking in Juneau and horseback riding in Skagway. The helicopter rides, dog mushing and fishing were out of our price range but talking to those who did, all raved about those excursions.

It was definitely an older crowd - probably due to the locale and the line. We usually take Royal Caribbean and those bigger ships offer more in entertainment and activity options. But my girls don't do the kids activities anyway so we didn't notice the difference. That said, the shows, particularly the singers and dancers were excellent. We got tired just watching them in what seemed an endless string of numbers in the shows.

Cabin Review

Inside Stateroom 9

Cabin 09

Admittedly, we do inside cabins to save money and 4 of us were fine - basically only in cabin to sleep and shower. Relatively spacious, especially now that there's no useless glass coffee table that only serves to bruise you when you inevitably walk into it. Bathroom is fine, except that don't like the shower curtain, prefer door. Basic room, has everything we needed and was enough space.
