Sail Date: Jul 2014

We cruised on the Braemar for the first time in July/August 2014 to Svalbard and were very pleasantly surprised by the facilities on board, the friendly efficient crew, and the quality of the entertainment and the high standard of the food.

The Braemar is small enough to be friendly and big enough to offer good facilities. We liked best the spacious promenade deck where we were able to walk around the entire ship, the big foredeck open to the public which was excellent for looking out for wildlife, the really nice observation lounge, the cosy and intimate cabaret space of the Neptune Lounge and the open and airy feel of both of the main restaurants.

We’ve cruised on the bigger Balmoral several times and are used to the ocean giants of the Queen Victoria, the Oceana and the Azura but the small, compact Braemar had a charm all of her own and in many ways the interior seems to be more spacious and more airy that many bigger ships. Even in the restaurants, there is space to circulate and those few people with mobility aids were able to move around in relative ease.

Cabin Review

We booked late. We were kind of dreading a cabin on deck 3 but we were very pleasantly surprised. It was spacious enough, fresh, clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate to sleep, change, wash and shower. We even managed to stow two large suitcases under the beds.
