We had resisted cruising for years. We had all sorts of preconceived notions and reasons why cruising just wasn't a "fit" for us. But this year, we decided to give it a try and made our own maiden voyage aboard the Getaway.

Simply put, every single preconceived notion we had held for all those years was W-R-O-N-G. We loved the Getaway experience!

Here's a bit of what we discovered:

Cabin Review

We chose a balcony stateroom, but were upgraded to a balcony mini-suite. Based on other reviews, we requested to NOT be on Deck 12, where the kids' splash academy keeps kids moving through the halls till the wee hours. Our Deck 11 midship location was perfect, quiet, and convenient. The space was terrific for 2, including decent closet space and room for 2 at the large bathroom sink. The shower featured a hand held spray or 6 nozzle spray, and had excellent water pressure. Bed linens and pillows were very nice quality and slept well. Our room was immaculate! We especially enjoyed early morning and late night on the balcony and would definitely recommend it. Lights and all electrical power in your room require a key card to be inserted into a slot near the bathroom door - great way Norwegian conserves energy! - and you can easily click on "do not disturb" or "please make up room" switches to signal your steward whether you want privacy or services. Storage was certainly adequate for 2, with about 15 hangers in the closet - better than most hotels offer by far for hanging clothes and staying wrinkle free. A hairdryer is provided, and NCL is clear that they do not want you to bring or use your own dryer as it is considered a fire hazard (maybe the high wattage).
