I booked a 'luxury cruise' with Silversea sailing out of Venice in July on Silver Spirit. Big mistake!

Our outward journey was a complete nightmare - flight cancelled, 8 hour delay , no offer of food or drink all day, finally arrived in Venice 16 hours after checking in at Manchester to find our luggage was still in Frankfurt. Arrived at ship at 9pm ( 9 hours late) so the whole of day 1 was a complete right off. We were each given a pair of paper knickers, a toothbrush and a second hand T shirt. Our luggage arrived four days later during which time we were not allowed into the dining room (or three other dining venues) due to lack of appropriate clothing, we could only dine in our cabin or by the side of the pool Our cabin was not the spacious 'suite' they advertise and our butler was conspicuous only by his absence. We were not offered our choice of drinks for our mini bar, when we asked for a bottle of Prosecco it took 24hrs to appear. I had to spend a couple of hours each day sitting in the laundrette washing, drying and ironing the only clothes we had (no help offered there) . our king size bed was two singles and not amended as requested. Food is adequate- certainly not world cuisine as advertised. There is no bottled water available on Silver Spirit - only warm, stale desalinated water. At no time are you given a wine list - you are served what Silversea want you to have - a choice of 1 red or 1 white - again not chilled = these are wines which can be purchased in any high street supermarket. Waiter seemed generally unhappy and often brought the wrong thing. Due to our lack of formal dress we were denied access to much of the amenities on the ship. They couldn't even come up with a swimming costume so that I could use the pool and seemed at a loss to try to locate our luggage. I asked if they could charge up my phone for me - this was met with a blank face and a shrug of the shoulders. I have now been home 7 weeks and have not had the courtesy of a letter from Silversea. Six Star treatment ? I don't think so. My advice - keep your hard earned money and go with another cruise line this one couldn't care less!

Cabin Review

Smaller than a mini-suite with P & O. Very narrow. Veranda tight. No coffee/tea facilities.
