Took our first cruise to Alaska on August 17th.-24th, would like to submit review about our trip:

First of all we thought the Grand Princess was a BEAUTIFUL ship. Yes it's certainly not the newest ships that you see pictures of but we felt it was in very good shape for an older ship. We got to the terminal by 11:00 am and were on the ship by 12:00, no problems. We went right to the DiVinci Dining room for lunch after dropping our bags off in our room instead of to the buffet thanks to Cruise Critic advice and it was great! Very relaxed and not crowded. Our mini-suite was very comfortable with comfortable bed and the balcony was really nice with the table and 2 chairs(not covered but was still ok). We really lucked out with the weather and did not have a drop of rain in any of the ports so the uncovered balcony was not a problem. Our cabin steward Edwin was awesome and took very good care of us. We really got a break with weather as it was 69 to 78 degrees in every port! We never even unpacked all our coats, scarfs, rain gear, umbrellas, etc that we brought with us! The food in the dining room was excellent and even the buffet was not bad at all though not as good as at the sit down dining. We had a nice table for 2 for dinner(we were celebrating our 35th anniversary) and ate with others at breakfast and lunch. There were plenty of food options for every kind of eater, even picky ones! Our favorites were the Fettuccine Alfredo in Parmesan basket, Goat Cheese Souffle, Shrimp Salad w/Avacado lunch, and the Creme Brulee. The chocolate dessert they gave us for our anniversary dinner was outstanding! We had great service from our waiter Pablo in the Michaelangelo dining room and enjoyed the sit down down dinner most nights. We even got a preview of a couple of the new Chocolate Journeys Desserts at dinner!

We did the Duckboat tour in Ketchikan and that was fun, and in Juneau we did the combo Glacier/Whale Watch/Salmon bake excursion and that was excellent! The food was actually quite good at the Salmon bake at Orca Point Lodge. The WhitePass railroad ride in Skagway was beautiful and the views were spectacular. I was nervous about that one but only one part of it I was scared on the tracks being that high! My husband also did the helicopter ride in Skagway where he landed on the glacier and he said that was awesome! The weather was so clear that day they could really see a lot and he got some great pictures!
