Just off the August 16th sailing. Balcony room 8124. As stated earlier the Jewel will go into dry dock next year. No real signs of aging to us. We had a very relaxing time as we only went into ports for a few hours, coming back to an empty ship, relaxing by pool or throughout the ship. Overall the food was better than expected. Did Chops two nights and Portofino one night. Two nights in MDR and one night at Seaview Cafe, most breakfasts and lunches in the Windjammer so we experinced all the venues.
Excellent meals in Chops. Entertainment was only average, although the Billy Joel tribute band Turnstiles was very good. Best experience was plane landings at Maho Beach in St. Maarten. Got blown off a wall. Service throughout ship was excellent. Dennis Charles was one of best cruise directors we have experienced. We enjoyed music trvia, tv theme trivia, 70's party in the Centrum. He kept everyone in good spirits. The Quest was also fun. People can find fault with The Jewel but I would be hard pressed. Love the feeling of knowing you are on the ocean, views are everywhere and it is more intimate. Have cruised on bigger ships, but this one actually cruises and doesn't just float. To each his own but I'll take The Jewel.
Clean with flat screen TV. More than adequate. Could've gotten a hump cabin but I like to be able to see both ways and you just can't on a hump. Quiet room with great attendant Susannah.
