We had a wonderful cruise on the Caribbean Princess

Sail Date: August 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We boarded this wonderful ship on August 2nd and wish we were still sailing!

I am writing this as before we left on the cruise so many negative reviews were posted and I was concerned enough to consider cancelling. Comments about the smells, poor attitude of staff, non-working elevators, lack of working public toilets etc. were prevalent.

Glad we did not do that! We previously sailed on CB in 2012 and loved the ship. We still do.

I purposely looked for these issues and did not find anything other than one elevator out of service throughout the cruise. All toilets working and used most of them in public areas. Yes, any cruise of my 35+ have smells in the hallway but other than that, the ship is clean and lovely. Aging gracefully but looking good.

Had a tumultuous arrival due to so many delays in boarding due to the need to look at how passengers are processed. No need to assume all need pics of self and family prior to boarding and taking pictures More entering the ship causing backups on the gangways.

We had a great lunch in the MDR upon arrival. Out suite was great and our stateroom steward was exceptional. All staff was so positive and friendly with lots of cleaning going on. Maybe past reviews caused this but all went so well.

Our trip to Princess Cays was unfortunately cancelled due to “Bertha’s arrival in the Bahamas! We spent an extra day at sea and had time to relax.

The first night we did eat in Crown Grill as a perk being suite guests. It was not great and this was the first of many returned dinners. Meat is tough to chew and not to our liking. The lobster cake was strange in taste and smell and also returned. I would not pay for this for sure if it was my choice. Based on reviews and previous experience, we did not book into Sabatini’s for dinner.

The remaining nights we at in the main dining room for traditional dining at 5:45 which is way too early. Meals were either fair to good. As many menus were not to our liking, we relied on the Medallions of beef. All beef was tough. The soups and appetizers were tasty.

The Horizon Court had a reasonable assortment of food for lunch. One of the best meals was the Mexican buffet. It was authentic and delicious.

One thing we missed out on was not trying the Crab Shack. It is held on two nights. For $20pp you can choose your crab bag.

As we were in a suite, we had breakfast in Sabatini’s which was fine. Another great perk was the invite to Skywalkers every night at 5- 7 PM for appetizers. The drink of the day was reasonable at $5.00.

Overall, service was very good. Our stateroom steward was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. We did not see anyone without a smile and a hello.

The ports were OK having been to each many times. We did not do any tours as we have done most of them on previous sailings.

Our arrival back in Ft. Lauderdale was orderly. We ate breakfast in our cabin and then went to Club Fusion, and waited about 10 minutes. We were quickly off the ship.

We enjoyed the Caribbean Princess with the exception of the food. Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess R406

This is a wonderful stateroom. It is spacious and comfortable. It is just near the elevator mid ship. No noise from the elevator and as it is so near the centrum we did have Internet access.
