Before we get onto the ship, we were standing outside (in the heat) for over an hour due to an alleged "drill". Never told what the "drill" related to, but the air conditioned area inside was empty.
Ultimately reach our cabin room 8426. DO NOT EVER go near there. Room was directly underneath the seating area for the 24-hour pizza. Chairs scrapped across the wooden deck above us at all hours of the day and night. Carnival refused to rectify the situation in a fair manner. They said all other rooms that accommodate four were unavailable. A day later they offered a small interior cabin for one of us to use to sleep, while the children and the other had no sleep due to the continuous noise. They also refused to rope off a small area of the deck above our room - even at 4 a.m.
The second room was dirty and had blood on the wall - which went unnoticed by me and their staff for 3 days, until I brought it to their attention. Sheets and blankets never appeared to be clean. More
Random hairs around the cabin from prior guests.
Food has gone from bad to worse on Carnival. Two decent dinners out of 8 nights in the dining room. Otherwise, food was poor in quality. Even their dining room supervisor noted that meats were low-grade and most food was poor quality and poorly prepared. Don't expect anything "made to order" because, you will get everything medium to well-done, regardless of your request.
The production shows were terrible. Their singers need to be in a different profession.
The spa is the least relaxing place on the ship. First attempt at a massage had hammering in the nearby gym. Second had doors opening and closing right next door and children jumping from the camp which is poorly placed on top of half of the spa. Massage tables were small and narrow, not climate controlled and they topped them with hard towels instead of blankets or anything soft. Casino was "ok" but most people, myself included, lost money. Room service and late night "bites" were both terrible. Maintenance took over an hour if you ever bothered to call it. Guest services hardly ever answered the telephone.
Temperature varied from one room to the next. One was decent, the other never reached comfortable cooling temperature. Only one alternate restaurant is very restrictive, considering it was the only good food on the ship. The ship also lacked a variety of things to do that the newer ships and renovated ships have.
Overall, probably will not go back on a Carnival ship, definitely would not return to the Freedom. Less
