The Only Way To go
Destination: Baltic Sea
Although we engaged a private guide in St Petersburg the shore excursions offed by the cruise line were well organized and there were several options in each port. Our 3 days in St Petersburg was the highlight but I can't imagine visiting this city with 48 fellow cruisers on a motor coach. We used Alex's Tours & Travel and it was fabulous and easy! There were just 6 of us in a spacious private car with an amazing guide who knew everything about everything. And the cost was no more than the ship's shore excursion. Embarkation and debarkation were very easy and went More smoothly and quickly. Less
Cabin review: 8000
Although not huge there was plenty of room for all our clothing and stuff. Cabin stewards were excellent and the cabin was always perfectly cleaned and neat. Each day there was fresh fruit and a full ice bucket which is so much nicer than those silly towel animals found on other cruise lines.
Port and Shore Excursions
A very long drive for a rather rushed tour. Schwerin Castle was interesting but it was a long way to drive just for lunch and a castle visit.
Loved St Petersburg but would only do it with a private guide because it saves so much time and you get to see and do and learn so much more. Tallinn was a lovely old city and any of the ships excursions offered there would be fine. Berlin was interesting but it was a very long drive from the port. We might have liked this better with a private guide. So many buildings were behind scaffolding or being repaired it was hard to discern any charm and there really isn't any "old town" in Berlin thanks to WW II
Copenhagen was a pleasant surprise; very interesting and colorful but incredibly expensive. Their 25%vat is a killer especially on top of already high prices.
A half day tour is plenty to see the major sights in this city. The Design Museum was offered and we probably would have enjoyed that more than the city tour. But we saw the highlights and that was sufficient. This is not a very exciting city.
Temppeliaukio Church (The Rock Church)
Half day tour was plenty of time in this port. The church was interesting but only took a few minutes to see and enjoy.
Absolutely unbelievable! Gorgeous!
Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood
A beautiful, clean and impressive city
Unbelievable!!! Beautiful!! Impressive!! Fabulous!!!!
Neva River Cruise
A great perspective of the city from the river. a very enjoyable hour
Peter & Paul Fortress
A must see
Don't miss this one
As a former travel agency owner with 20 years experience in group travel and tour operators I know a good tour company and good guides. Alex's Tour & Travel is SUPERB! Alex arranged 3 entire days for us and there was not a single misstep or problem. We saw everything as promised, with personalized service, flexibility, fun and had the most knowledgeable and amazing guide! Everything was perfect and beyond our expectations. Our group left the city with greater knowledge of and a deeper appreciation for the city than we ever could have acquired as part of a large group on a motorcoach. All the pre trip planning and communication was extremely timely and responsive. I can't imagine seeing St Petersburg any other way. And our 3 day tour with private guide and car/driver was no more expensive than the 3 day tour offered by the cruise line! Don't let the company name fool you; Alex's Tour & Travel is THE BEST.
St. Isaac's Cathedral
Lovely, especially from the outside but not as outstanding as other churches in the area
Very touristy but fun. An experience that probably won't be repeated.
Stockholm Old Town Tour
The Old town was interesting and colorful but wasn't overwhelmed. I think a half say here is adequate. We probably should have gone to the Vasa Museum that many others really liked.
