We had signed up for "anytime dining", not realizing that this meant we had to re-confirm our reservation each day. We were given a hard time when we asked to be at the same time each day, but eventually the maitre d' complied. Head waiter's English was so bad, none of us could understand him. Formal night wasn't formal at all, with some men in short sleeved plaid shirts and other very casual clothing. Why bother with it at all, especially on an Alaskan cruise?
The food was marginal in both Windjammer and Cascades. Many of the food service employees' English was poor, and required calling someone else in to make ourselves understood. BBQ on pool deck had a thousand people in line in the freezing cold wind for cold ribs, and tiny corn on the cob. Chocolate Night the line was so long, people could not get off the elevators because of the crowds. I desperately needed an antacid after lunch; the gift shop was "sold out" if they ever had any; they directed me to the Medical facility, which was closed in the afternoon! All in all, except for the teens having a great time with new friends, it was a total disappointment.
Traveled with my son, daughter-in-law and three teenaged daughters in three cabins, one an inside cabin which smelled musty and unpleasant. Shocked to find no shampoo, conditioner or lotion provided in the bathrooms; only a cake of soap and a dispenser in the tiny shower. The paint on the trash container in the bathroom was all chipped and unsanitary looking. Although we had stipulated twin beds, we encountered full sized, which the helpful cabin steward cheerfully re-made into twins.
