I have cruised on all the major cruise lines except Norwegian, so this summer we took the July 27 departure to Alaska. We love cruising and we both excited about the experience. Plus, trying Norwegian was going to complete the big 4 (Carnvial, Royal Carribean, Princess and Norwegian). for us.
Every cruise has good things. Every cruise has bad things, but this ship has some issues.
First and foremost, the critics are right. The service on this ship is far below par. We came with a larger group, and free style dining is not a good way to go. We often had to wait to be seated, and often they would comp us champaigne while we waited. Once at the table, we were often ignored or maybe the food just took that long to arrive. An hour plus meal often drifted into two hours plus. And the food quaility was fair. The daily steak is fine, because it is covered with garlic butter. There is no lobster night and prime rib was only served in the buffet. So, the usual amazing dinner was a huge let down. This alone will make us hesitant to use Norwegian again. Dinner is the most important part of any cruise.
The cabin was fine. We chose an obstructive view mainly to get a cabin up higher. It was truly obstructed. We could barely see anything, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you just want natural light in your room. Our cabin steward was Chris or Christopher. He was great and even left us chocolate strawberries one day. The room was always clean and inviting to us.
