Wonderful Ship, nice crew but awful disembarkation process

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Venice

We had a wonderful cruise for 7 nights onboard the Celebrity Equinox. Having the 123promo and OBC provided by our US TA meant stress free wining and dining for the entire cruise.

We found the Equinox to be a lovely ship with excellent facilities. Thoroughly enjoyed Oceanview buffet and found the range of foods to be excellent. Wonderful sushi at 6pm for pre dinner snacks,

Had an excellent dinner at the specialty Murano Restaurant where we were truly pampered.

We had select dining which we used for five nights.

The cabin (deck six Verandah) was really nice. We were above the smoking area but we observed no issues at all with either noise or smoke. The guy smoking the cigar on the upper level near the pool was much more irritating. The attendant kept the cabin spotless - although we rarely saw him.

The ports were excellent and despite the huge number of cruisers in Venice (15,000!) we found embarkation to be quick although the non arrival of More our booked taxi resulted in some stress and around a 45 minute walk dragging cases to the terminal due to the confusion our now hastily organised boat transfer had in the cruise terminals.

Dubrovnik was a great taster to this area and we will look at further trips here. Katakolo - hmm, there is so much the Olympic movement and Greece could do with this area - signs on the various areas would be a start - so we found this disappointing. Corfu was very nice and we simply organised a Taxi tour of the area which included lunch. Next time we might just go to the beach. Santorini - we were returning to Santorini after the cruise so we decided we would do the volcano walk and hot springs to get us off quickly. We were in the first group hiking up and the tour guide set off much too quickly to get ahead - it would have been much more pleasant if we were able to move up the volcano at the speed the other groups were able to do. No wonder people dont make it up there! Slow down! Ephesus - we organised a private tour - thoroughly enjoyed this until the last hour where we saw the carpet displays. Displays would have been ok but at the end each couple/family was individually approached and this time being on my felt, felt the pressure to buy was significant and inappropriate. Just because I liked the colour of a carpet does not mean I want to buy it (for around $8000) and nor was I interested in a cheaper one.

Istanbul - we overnighted here and we decided to stay on the ship. So glad we did as it was very peaceful and being a hot day we enjoyed the pools etc. Embarkation the next day was simply dreadful. It was as though this was the first time a ship had ever disembarked here. And adding to the chaos was a huge thunderstorm and torrential rain which meant even the immigration hall started to leak. Our 10am departure was closer to 11 and by then the halls were choked. We finally made it through only to see a two hour taxi line - taxis were very reluctant to come into the collection area. We walked about 300 metres to the entrance as it wasnt raining so much by now - to see many many taxis waiting at the gate. It was a rubbish end to a great cruise. Less
