Our best Seabourn Cruise!
Embarkation: Athens (Piraeus)
Checking in to boarding took less than 15 minutes. Lunch in the Collonade which is on the same floor (8th) as our suite. Only very minor irritation was that we had stipulated we did not want any champagne or alcohol but there to greet us was the champagne in an ice bucket and two bottles of spirits ! Our stewardess made us feel welcome and through out the cruise provided excellent service.
This was a back to back cruise so we attended two life boat drills conducted in the main dining room.
This was our sixth cruise with Seabourn and the second on Odyssey. The food was consistently of a high standard . We ate in main dining room on eight occasions , the Collonade twice and 2 once. The main dining room was closed for breakfast and lunch and although there was always a good choice of food we missed not having lunch in MDR as the Collonade was often crowded and not conducive to savouring the food. We usually had coffee after lunch in Seabourn Square.
This was an More intensive port a day cruise and as we had previously had land based holidays in the region felt relaxed enough to make our own arrangements and with the heat in the 30s (90sF) a six hour tour did not appeal.
You don't travel on Seabourn for the entertainment but the women singers were good as was the band. Probably a sign of getting older the music for Rock the Boat nights did not get our feet tapping as on previous cruises. Sophie our new Cruise Director on our last night did a stunning solo performance. She has a great voice. The best CD we have sailed with.
The other major difference to our first cruise on Odyssey was the increased number of young people and children. We were interviewed by a 13 year (going on for 40) young lady from California who gave us the breakdown as to the number and ages of the children. We had one baby on board. The parents had to eat separately for dinner. They had thought Seabourn provided a crèche !
The only other change we noted was that the cotton bed linen was of a poorer quality Less
