This was our second Alaska cruise with Princess and after the first trip on the Golden, we didn't think it could get better. But, sailing on the Crown was fantastic. We enjoyed almost every aspect of the ship and the itinerary. The ship itself is newer than the Golden and has a different layout. The 3 major differences that we enjoyed most were having the Terrace Pool in the aft of the ship, having the second large pool being an outdoor pool (instead of indoors on the Golden), and having Sabatini's in the aft with beautiful views all around. The Terrace Pool area was always a bit warmer than the pools on the top deck because there was less wind. In addition, it's an adults only pool, which made it a bit more cozy and relaxing. We didn't like the indoor pool on the Golden because it was always too steamy in the room and smelled of chlorine. The layout of the deck in the Movies under the Stars area was also nicer on the Crown. The rest of the features were mostly the same.

The service on the Crown was excellent, as usual. No hard-selling of anything. In fact, we had to search for someone selling the drink cards instead of being constantly harassed on the first day. For the drinkers, I would definitely recommend the $49/day drink card, which includes any beverage with a value up to $10. Since most drinks are between $7-$9, it was easy to add up to $49. I also recommend the soda card for anyone that might drink a few glasses a day (they are small glasses so if you pay for individual ones, you'll feel cheated). All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Always quick to clean up empty plates and glasses and always willing to bring more.

The dining room experience was also very good. The Head Waiter was extremely accommodating. We were a party of 10 and were able to reserve a table at our desired time of 7:15 in the "anytime" dining room. The food was good and there was always a nice selection. The buffet also had a nice selection but the food was average - probably as good as you can get for a mass produced selection that has to feed thousands of people.

Cabin Review

I thought the mini-suites were very nice rooms. Plenty of room to unpack your suitcases and spread out. The bed was comfortable and having the couch was nice for sitting with the door open to enjoy the views when it was a little too cold to sit outside. The bathroom was actually large enough for 2 people to use at the same time so I have no complaints about it. This particular cabin was in a perfect location, midship, close to the main elevator. No engine vibration or excessive noise.
