Beautiful Weather for Italy Croatia Cruise
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Before the cruise, we stayed in a small hotel in Venice, Hotel Locanda ai Santi Apostoli. It is secluded and quiet located in the in the Cannaregio district and it overlooks the Grand Canal. The rate was very reasonable and it included breakfast and wifi. We would stay there again.
We really enjoyed this cruise – the itinerary and the ship.
The cabin was well-tended. We had room service for breakfast twice and it arrived at the beginning of the half hour window both times. We received a call just before it was delivered.
We were disappointed with the small library and its layout wasn’t easy to figure out. It seemed to lack good maps and reference material.
Food and service in the main dining room was good. We had traditional dining first seating. Our table on the lower level was in the center with the high ceiling. It was a little noisy so closer to the windows would have been better. We also ate at the Tuscan Grill. The food and service More there was fantastic. We regretted paying extra to go to the Lawn Club Grille as we didn’t care to help cook and neither the menu nor the atmosphere was exciting.
We arranged a private excursion for the port of Catania, Sicily with a group via Cruise Critic. Once we had a group name, we each booked online at http://www.shareashoreexcursion.com. We were able to meet the others at the Connection Party before our excursion to Mt. Etna and Taormina. The company and our driver did an excellent job and we were easily back to our ship on time. Sicily is interesting. Taormina caters to tourists and is beautiful.
In Venice for an overnight, we were able to reserve a taxi for the morning to go to the airport. The next morning after the ship's express breakfast, we were able to debark immediately. We carried our own luggage off and met our taxi driver nearby for the ride to the airport. Debarkation was a breeze. Less

Our cabin was mid-ship on the hump behind the partition for the elevators. It was very quiet with no noise from the elevators. yet very convenient. It is also very close to the card room.
Port and Shore Excursions
Dubrovnik was very small. It was not easy competing with the masses to flag down a cab by the bus terminal. Although walking the wall was not too challenging, we wished we would have only walked the section by the sea for the views. We did the cable car and it took awhile waiting in line. It is nice to spend a little time at the café on top of the mountain and enjoy the awesome view.
Kotor was our favorite port for the sail-in and sail-out. Once there, we explored the Old Town. We thought we would get a boat to ‘Our Lady of Rocks’ but couldn’t find a boat that wasn’t too expensive for two people. We wished we had booked an excursion through the ship.
In Malta, we took the Segway Tour ship excursion which took us to the Dingli Cliffs. It was fun, easy (we're in our mid-60's) and worth doing. The Dingli Cliffs are very scenic. We were able to see some of the architecture in Mdina from the bus on the way. Afterward, we had time in the afternoon to walk around Valletta’s Old Town.
We went to Capri on our own for the whole day. If you go, take the boat ride around Capri. Our boat stopped at the Blue Grotto and transferred anyone who wanted to go in to another boat before we continued on.
We rented an Avis car in Civitavecchia and drove to Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio which we liked even better than Orvieto. This was not hard to do and we enjoyed the entire day on our own.
Be careful where your room is.
