We have just returned from our first river cruise on Emerald Star and have no hesitation recommending this ship. We realised that river cruising would be entirely different to our two previous sea cruises and adjusted our expectations accordingly. Our cabin, on the 3rd level was comfortable and well fitted and although the bathroom was close to the bed, had every facility. We had twin beds, but of course a double would give you more space by the bathroom. There was plenty of wardrobe space and drawer space.
We had been warned about double mooring occasionally, but didn't find it a problem as little time was spent in the cabins and, at times, became a source of amusement,
We found the food very good with plenty of choices, which always included a local dish and the free wines were varied and plentiful. Although not as many choices as we had on the QM2, the quality was very good. The staff were excellent and very helpful. We actually liked the free dining experience meeting many new people from all parts of the world. There was plenty of seating in the dining room and lounge and we never felt overcrowded.
Very comfortable with plenty of cupboard space and a good bathroom, albeit on the small size.
