Pacific Pearl Comedy Cruise – 17-21 July 2014

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Australia & New Zealand
Embarkation: Sydney (Australia)

First of all, this was our second P&O cruise after a gap of 13 years, we had low expectations about the ship, food and service but were determined to have a great time and with such a bargain price for this cruise, we were sure it would be achievable. It was a four night cruise to nowhere (no ports) out of Sydney.

Boarding was really easy, got the shuttle to White Bay from Central at 12.40pm for $15 and was on-board by 1.15pm in what was a very efficient process. Our Cabin was a Guarantee Inside and we ended up on Deck 6 forward (6121), which was close to all the necessary areas, on 5, 6 and 7 Shops, Charlies, Connexions and the Orient bars, the Marquee Theatre and the Waterfront restaurant. The cabin was clean, roomy and had lots of storage (only two of us for a possible 4 berth). Lester our cabin attendant was friendly and attentive.

The ship was looking a bit tired and worn but overall was not too bad, a lot smaller than the ships we have been on recently More though. Some areas seemed to be quite crowded and when the weather got a bit rough the noise and movement was very evident with the whole ship shuddering and groaning.

The food was good, with only some dishes being just ok. We only ate in the Waterfront except for the embarkation lunch. I was very happy to be surprised as my expectations were low, as I was with the overall service of all the staff. They were equal to any other on the various cruise lines we have sailed on, with some individuals giving exceptional service.

The entertainment and activities were fantastic. Being a Comedy cruise, the acts were very funny (except Geraldine) and there were workshops and extra performances throughout the cruise.

Disembarkation was also very easy, we did the walk off around ten minutes after clearance was given and were at the taxi stand within 5 minutes. We were in a maxi cab after another 5 mins, a $46 fare (traffic over the Anzac Bridge) to Central station which was shared between the 3 couples.

To sum up, I am really happy with the standards of food and service and would consider doing a P&O cruise of this type again (short 3 or 4 night theme cruise) despite the ship being what it is.

Cheers Mic. Less
