Excellent Cruise

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Greece
Embarkation: Rome (Civitavecchia)

We have cruised 8 other times but this was our first Celebrity Cruise. We were very pleased with the entire cruise and will sail Celebrity again in the future. It lives up to Modern Luxury.

We arrived in Rome a day early and took a private car service to the port, 200 Euros for 8 people. Contact Maurizio +39 380 7658365. The transfer was so smooth, we arranged for him to pick us back up as well ( we had planned to take the train). They dropped us off 30 feet from the embarkation site.

After a 20 minute queue we were on ship and checking out the drink packages. If you have the Classic, you certainly can drink as much as you would like. We opted for the upgrade to Preferred ( 10.00 per person, per day) so we could experience drinks at the Martini bar and the Molectular bar. Most of the drinks at these bars were over the classic limit and we enjoyed them greatly. We felt the preferred package gave us a lot of additional options and was well worth the money.. More

Food next, the food in general was far superior to other cruise lines we have traveled with. The buffet was excellent with great variety and quality. I heard a lady say she hated the buffet breakfast because it was the same crap every day. What more she could ask for I don't know, made to order omelets, eggs, oatmeal, pasteries, fruit, meats, cereal, pancakes, French toast, waffles, and so much more. We had one breakfast in Opus and it was very nice as well.

Opus (MD) dining - we selected anytime dining and advise the staff on our first night that we would like our table for 8, every night at 7, this allowed they to give us the same table and staff each night. The food here was of superior quality and if you could not find something you liked, you just were not trying. Lobster night is the second formal night and after 3 of the entrees, I had to give up. The drink package works well here as well, it provides a greater selection of wines and liquors.

Speciality dining - We were told you had to book the package prior to arrival and that is incorrect. The dining staff will sell you the package on the ship as well ( important to know if you have a on board credit, as if you book prior to sailing, you will pay for that prior to getting on the boat). The 4 restaurant package was 139 per person and the 5 restaurant package was 159, this cuts the additional cost down to under 35.00 per person, per meal. I would do this again, but if you are not a "foodie" the food in Opus is excellent and you can have great meals without any additional charges.

Tuscan Grill - Excellent pasta and steaks, Chocolate fondue

Murano- French inspired, Top quality service, lobster prepared table side, ask to see the $4,000 bottle of wine.

Lawn Club - you can help prepare here or have they do it for you, think backyard barbeque. We opted to make our own flat bread pizzas and I had the best ribeye ever, with shrimp and scallops as well, Save room for the Chocolate chip cookie with ice cream.

Qusine, Best dinner ever. You select tapas size entrees from an I pad and they come out in courses, fun, quirky, excellent food and unique desserts.

Porch - excellent salads, and sandwichs ( $7 additional)

Bistro - crepes, salads, ($7 additional)

If you are not a coffee drinker, still stop by the coffee shop on 5, the entire cake and pasty cabinet is free and they have a nice selection of cookies there as well.

Indulgence - this is sold as a quirky party from 10:30 - 12:30 and they have a lot of speciality foods and drinks at the open bar, some music and other entertainment. 45.00 per person, there were only about 50 guests at the party with about 30 entertainers, so it would have been more fun with a larger crowd, we enjoyed it, however as the evening wound down, it became more a party for the entertainers. Given the price, I would skip it in the future.

Overall the ship was clean and well cared for, the staff was very friendly and professional, it was a little hard to find chairs on sea days, but they did turn over pretty quick, be out early if its important for you to be somewere special.

Im not a fan of main theater shows but I thought the entertainment was far above par, the singers, ventrioligst, and dancers were very entertaining. We looked forward to going after the first couple days.

We selected a 7AM disembarkment, hoping to meet our driver at 8AM, however the Reflection crew was way too efficient and they released us off the ship at 7:00 exactly and after picking up our luggage, we were in the parking lot by 7:15.

We would recommend this cruise highly. Less
