Lovely Cruise but a lot of up selling !!!!!!!!

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Italy
Embarkation: Venice

This was our first time on Celebrity and the cruise was great. There were some minor annoyances, but in general the ship and staff and ports were all great. Weather was close to perfect and the seas were calm.

Our cabin was 1026 a disability friendly state room it was on deck ten at the sharp end of the ship It is a great cabin with a veranda Really roomy and one could always find shade on it.

We had select dining with a reservations this was a choice they we regret We requested a table for 2 as we didn't really want to sit with people we didn't have any connection with

What we got was placed alongside to other tables of 2 so we ended up on a table of 6 by default .

Our waiter tried very hard but he was a student of the corporate Celebrity" Have a nice day school of customer service " A nice guy who really was a victim of the process of what the company wanted rather than what there customers needed !!!!!!!!!!

We tried hard but gave up More after 3 meals and just used the the self service buffet on deck 14

each to there own but this type of dinning was not for us

Food in the main was very good, but we did notice as the cruise went on the food was not as hot as it could be

2rd niggle the ship didn't seem very busy as a 1st time cruiser we couldn't judge if it was full or not

but we never had to Q for anything so we suspect the crew where under pressure to Sell Sell

Up grade your drinks package ,Up grade to dinning ,etc etc it was non stop as where the approaches to get a drink from the bar

it became after a time a nuisance and an annoyance as you felt that your relaxation was constancy being intruded upon

The ship entertainment was better than expected. Dancers, singers and acrobats were well worth seeing

An example of the overuse of trying to wring the last $ out of customers a tour of behind the scenes of the ship was listed see the crew rest room !!! The food prep areas, the bridge, the engine control room all for only $150 each I think not

The plus side

Stateroom attendants worth their weight in gold ( yes we doubled tipped them )

The organization of the whole process of moving people around safely was 1st class

The attention to hygiene was very very good

I wish our NHS hospitals were as clean and paid this detail

And the old Cruise line joke

Its the only place you can get up to use the toilet in the middle of night and your beds been made by the time you get back in to it Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Silhouette 1026

Great cabin we could not have asked for better As my wife as reduced mobility the extra space and etc equipment was most welcome The auto opening doors were really useful We could not find any fault with the cabin

Port and Shore Excursions

Dont do it just dont do it

As Naples was the last port before the end of the cruise we decided not to book anything and just  go for a walk around the city

Bad Move
As soon as you step off the ship you are surrounded by taxi drivers and tour reps

We kept our heads down and walked off the pier and the last taxi driver  give him his due shouted as we walked away " not that way sir very bad"

We walked up in to the city

Its dirty and smells of P we saw human poo in the street and its a very hostile city
very much a poor relation to everything else we had seen so far

It was a welcome relief to get back on to ship
