Pretty poor

Sail Date: June 2014
Destination: Baltic & Northern Europe
Embarkation: Southampton

Just back from our first ever cruise, have to say we were utterly disappointed.

Food on board MSC Opera was appalling and always cold whether in the main dining room or buffet. Food is an important part of any holiday, I usually look forward to meals but on MSC Opera we honestly only ate because we'd starve other wise, nothing exciting or tasty about dining onboard.

Getting a drink is a nightmare expect to wait until you can get the attention of a waitress (there are not enough of them), no point going to the bar as you will be sent away to sit down and wait for a waitress. On several occasions we gave up which is not good enough given we had already paid for an All Inclusive drinks package.

There was nothing to do what so ever on board during the day except play a selection of 5 battered board games, the entertainment in the bars was the same every night for 10 nights and was very dated (We didn't expect modern music and even as 30 somethings would be very More happy listening to a decent crooner but these guys looked seriously bored and fed up of singing the same old songs every night), the singers were pretty poor and their was zero ambiance or atmosphere. The nightly entertainment in the theatre was acceptable but don't expect to be impressed if you have led a cultured life, its akin to UK caravan site entertainment. The Tenor and Soprano were very good and there was an underused contortionist. The dance team were really average Igor was underused, he was really expressive and the only person I saw act and covney real emotion and enthusiasm. Didn't use the night club as we tend to be in bed by 11pm. It was more entertaining watching the other guests ballroom skills.

A lot of the other guests were very rude, no thanks you, expect corridors to be blocked with chatting people who wont move, children running up and downs screaming at 1am, parents nowhere to be seen. We have travelled substantially and are used to slumming it where needs be, we have back packed and visited 5 star establishments. This really was a poor experience. Luckily the beautiful views of the Fjords meant it wasnt an entirely wasted holiday. We will cruise again just not with MSC as others onboard told us not to be put of as other companies offer a much better service and entertainment.

Embarking was fast but disembarking seemed a bit of a drawn out process, ship docked before 7am, we had to be out of our cabins by 7am but couldn't get off until 945am our allocated disembarking slot, seemed a very long time to sit around and wait, would have rather stayed in bed!

Over all it was pretty poor. Less

Cabin review: MSC Opera 8247

It was clean, and spacious enough. I hit my head on the upperbunk more times than I can count getting out of bed though. Bit dated looking. Tiny old CRT TV but didn't really bother us to much. Nice big window which was good.
