The cruise was pretty good. I had read the many scary reviews about sewage smell, rude staff etc... I didn't encounter any of that.
ROOM - Typical balcony. One major flaw is the lack of a refrigerator! Ask for one early and you may get one brought to your cabin.
FOOD - Main dining room gets a C+. The wait staff were tremendous (A+). However, the food has slowly deteriorated in quality (taste and presentation) over the years. Getting more and more like banquet food one would receive at a hotel function.
The Lido Buffet gets a D. The food was very limited and the queues long. Again, I know you don't expect quality food at a buffet, but the food here was quite bland and poorly presented. The "Guys Burgers" were a hit, but it tasted fast-food quality to me. The 24 hour pizza place was terminally slow and, for some reason, they could not keep up with demand even though it appeared they could have by simultaneously cooking more pizzas while serving the existing supply. Instead, they seemed to follow a sequential operation. I tried the monogolian bque for lunch but gave up after waiting 10 minutes in line and the queue had not advanced a single person. I'm not sure if the poor food delivery process in the buffet are an operational flaw or plan by Carnival to control demand and product supply.
ENTERTAINMENT- Main showroom "stage" shows were pretty good. The punch line comedians were ok, but I only tried the family friendly shows.
PORTS- Usual Caribbean stuff. We did the snorkeling in Belize and I was not impressed with the scenery (under water). Hawaii and other Caribbean ports offered much better. Also, the "tropical island" is more like a sand bar. Did the Mayan Ruins in Cozumel. Interesting, but not the best place to see Mayan ruines. Good guide. The included beach stop and tequila tasting were ok. Beware, though, the beach stop has only one restaurant choice and the tequila tasting is like being in a used car lot.
