A week in the stunning Fjords

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Baltic Sea
Embarkation: Southampton

Having done a recent mini cruise aboard Azura, our first experience with P & O, we were careful not to have high expectations of this cruise on the Oceana to the Fjords. We need not have worried; we had a wonderful week aboard a great ship serviced by friendly and professional staff.

Both embarkation and disembarkation were faultless. We drove up to the terminal on our first day and our car was whizzed away by the car park attendants and our last day was just as efficient. Our cabin on deck C was well designed. The bathroom was a little tight, but storage space very good. The balcony is a great boon and we spent many a happy hour sitting watching the scenic views go by with a glass in hand! Jack our cabin steward kept it spotlessly clean and was the best steward we have had aboard a cruise ship.

The Oceana is known as ‘the pretty ship’ and this is an accurate description. It is well laid out with a great deal of sun lounge areas. Varied bars and More lounges with differing types of décor means there is something which will suit all. It is comfy, clean and has a really nice atmosphere.

Food was varied and tasty. We chose second sitting in the Adriatic, but have decided that in the future we will opt for freedom dining. Although our experience in the Adriatic was wonderful, it did take a large chunk out of the centre of the evening when we did miss some great entertainment. One negative on the food front; do not bother with Café Jardin. The food was poor, service terrible - we waited 45 minutes for our table (which had been booked) and when the waiter dropped a large pepper pot on the floor, it was not swept up and as a result people were walking through it. Not what you would expect from a supposedly classy restaurant. I imagine Marco would have been running his fingers through his lustrous hair in frustration!

Entertainment is a highlight on the Oceana. The shows we saw were professional and very entertaining and we would definitely recommend you see as many as you can, in particular the crew show.

But best of all were the Fjords. Beautiful, stunning scenery and the lovely places we visited has really left their mark in our memories. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and found the whole week cruising on the Oceana a delight. Less

Cabin review: Oceana C 616

A well designed cabin with a good sized balcony. Quiet area and mid-ship so no problem with motion.
