We are experienced cruisers. We've been on the major lines, but this was the first on NCL. (Full disclosure, I sailed on the Norway many years ago.) The ship is new and bright with all the latest features. I really liked the Freestyle Dining program, but we kind of missed getting to know our servers.
Here are the pros and cons of this voyage:
Pros: Nice cabins. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Good food. Wonderful shows. (See the Illusionarium. It is very good.) Well laid out. Good for kids, including water slides. Comedy at Howl at the Moon was great. Cruise Director, Joel was fantastic. Multi-talented.
Cons: Too many days at sea. Shore excursions are way too expensive. Drink costs are outrages. Would like to be able to reserve seats for second comedy show. Drinks were too weak at the pool. Disembarkation was a breeze. You can carry your own bags and get off quickly.
I would said NCL again, but only if we had more ports. We sailed with a 21 year old and a 17 year old, who enjoyed the cruise.
Ship docks right in downtown. Mini-boats are a 15 walk. Good guide, fun sights to see.
You must take a water taxi to get into town. $7 round trip. Like most ports, there are the shops clustered near the ship. I avoid them. Don't need booze, perfume, cigs and jewelry. We did the ATV adventure. Too expensive but a good time.
