Firstly, Southampton is only 25 minutes away from where we live so we left our house at 12.30 and were in our stateroom by 1.10pm! Forty minutes ... not bad! Shame our luggage didn't appear until well after dinner!

We dropped our hand luggage in the room and went for a stroll. I had already been on Navigator of the Seas so was aware of the Royal Promenade but my other half hadn't so his first view of the Promenade was "WOW". There weren't many people around so it was a good time to see it! We had a drink in the pub then meandered up to have something to eat. The sailaway was very sunny and smooth. However, we hardly heard any music coming from the pool deck.

We had read some negative reviews about AOTS stating that it was tatty, especially in the Windjammer. There weren't many people around (it was still before 2.00pm and I reckon many were sticking to the request to stagger embarkation!) and it looked very clean and tidy. The waiters were, of course, very attentive and the food was good and plentiful. One niggle ... at lunchtimes, the salad bar was sited as soon as you walk in so, if after you have looked at what was on offer you decided you wanted a salad, you had to practically walk out of the restaurant! Another niggle was that the plates for salad and coldcuts were HOT! Obviously straight from dishwasher to counter. I like a cold plate for my salad!

Cabin Review

Nice cabin. Perhaps a little tired decor-wise but clean and adequate. Bathroom a bit small and not enough Wardrobe space. Balcony was a bit tatty. We did ask for the sheets to be changed as they were marked and this was done without question. No noise and no problem with movement when we went through a rough patch of sea one evening.
