We flew into Munich Germany and took the train on our own to the nearby port of Vilshoven, Took a cheap cab ride to the AmaSonata. AmaWaterways was wonderful about telling us exactly where the ship was docked by e-mail. Since we spoke no German we were a little uneasy but all went exceedingly well and was a fun adventure for US citizens not familiar with Europe's trains or languages.
The AMaSonata was absolutely pristine, the staff was fantastic, and the food and wine far exceeded ordinary cruise ship fare.
For the first time ever, We had what was classified as an inside cabin on the lower level which did not turn out to be a problem at all due to the great technology on the ship. We could see the forward view from the bridge on our television and could see out of a high side window which put us at water level on the port side. The windows were so clean that I actually took some great pictures by holding my iPad to the window for shots of beautiful castles or small villages going by. A few short steps would take us to the deck above for a more complete view.
