I had read the reviews of the Jade before we took off on our June 7th Cruise, hence I had lowered my expectations: a good thing. We had a "penthouse suite" on the rear of the ship: cabin 10164. I have to say that the ship was a real step down from our experiences on Celebrity, it was even a notch or two below Carnival. The ship showed signs of fatigue and being worn out. Railings were in poor condition, rust spots abounding, we have never seen this on Celebrity. While our cabin was nicer than a standard balcony room, we felt it hardly was worth the extra $$$ given its condition. While the cabin attendant was attentive, there were obvious signs of wear and neglect. Smashed mosquitoes on the ceiling at the sliding glass door was just one example. The lounges and common areas were nicely appointed and some of the entertainers were quite good. We had a complimentary lunch at Cagney's on embarkation, it was terrible: we never went back. The Grand Pacific main dining room produced a dinner which was mediocre, nothing exceptional and well below even Carnival. The single most absurd thing we encountered was a $10 charge to get change. Not to exchange currency, just to break a 50 euro bill so that I could tip staff members. I protested this vociferously with a Manager, who claimed it was company policy. Obviously this cruise line is in need of management change. The saving grace for this experience was a great itinerary. But given the mediocrity of our experience, we will Not sail with Norwegian again.
