The (Second) Best Vacation Ever!
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)
My wife and I vacation at least once a year and have done so for over 25 years. Our cruise on the Breakaway was our number 2 favorite vacation, number 2 to two weeks near the Alps in France followed by one week in Paris, that's how good it was.
It didn't hurt to be booked in 11908--which is bigger than our vacation home in Blakeslee, PA.
The deck was actually too large for two of us, but, oh, the view of the wake.
This was our fourth cruise: we enjoyed Jewel, Carnival out of New Orleans, and Celebrity.
We had a good time in port in Bermuda, but wasted part of day in Hamilton, which is nothing like the place we remember when cruise ships docked there. Since we had both been in Bermuda many times before, we spent little time off the boat.
The entire crew--waiters, butlers, attendants, and our favorite concierge, Adrianne, were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. We really struck up a friendly conversation with Ronnie, the bass player at More the blues club and enjoyed our visits there. I was even prompted to do an impromptu solo dance. We old people will do anything!
Enjoyed Rock of Ages, on the par with the best theater we have seen in New Jersey and off-Broadway.
The Cirque was spectacular because we sat right next to the stage and the food was among the best meals we had during the cruise.
Buffet was actually more than we expected with multiple choices. Truly savored the Haven restaurant because of the friendly people we met there--including the wonderful couple from Long Island--a retired teacher and an original member of the NYPD's sex crimes division. They are what make cruising the joy it can be.
Surprise! Just like the Jewel (French bistro), the worse meal on board was the steak at Cagney's. My wife's strip steak was "stripped" alright: stripped of flavor, dry, tasteless, The staff tried to "make it better" but her appetite was ruined.
Oh, well, nothing ever runs smoothly...that's what makes the highlights even brighter.
Embarkation was smooth, and so was debarkation since we walked off our luggage.
Would sail Breakaway or Getaway again.
Never once had to wait for an elevator and the walk from our cabin to the Haven was good for our waistlines. Less
