Best Way to See Hawaii

Sail Date: June 2014
Destination: Hawaii
Embarkation: Honolulu

We just completed this cruise and really enjoyed it. We took the cruise for many reasons and were not disappointed. The ship was not new but it was lovely. We had heard many stories a out the staff being less than attentive because it's an American registry ship but we did not find that to be the case. The ship was very clean, and there was hand sanitizer available everywhere but we did not find the staff as willing to stand at entrances to food places to spray people individually. They did do that when you returned to the ship however.

we were on Deck 10 in the center of the ship which was perfectly located to everything. We used the stairs a lot for dining. The cabin itself was comfortable. The room was dark and quiet and the bed was great.

We ate only in the buffets and in the dining room twice for dinner. We found the food choices to be varied and we liked almost everything we ate. There are certainly enough restaurants for anyone to pick from. We bought sodas as More we went, as opposed to a soda plan, and they were very reasonably prices. The wine by the glass prices were average.

We will rate the excursions separately but we cannot really rate them fairly. I was limited by a hip injury and ended up selecting "easy" excursions as a result. I will say that we enjoyed the island of Kuaui the most. It is gorgeous. The entertainment on this ship was varied and very good. The guitar player, Randy Meyers, was exceptional. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Volcano National Park & Hilo Waterfall Tour

(4)

This was a pretty neat tour of a caldera, steam holes and finally a volcanic tube. It gave a pretty good feel for a volcano without actually seeing one erupting. The tube was the neatest part of the tour. It was a walk down several steps surrounded by fern woods. Then we went into the actual tube which is a big cave followed by a walk up more steps. I was disabled on this trip but I made this excursion anyway and it was fine. As long as you can walk, you just take it slow.

Waimea Canyon

(5)

This was the best excursion we took on the trip. Again I have to qualify things by saying I was physically limited so there were much more exciting excursions available. That being said, this was a beautiful trip. The canyon is so different because it has trees and not just rocks. On the way, we stopped at a candy and jewelry store which was a nice bathroom break but otherwise, too long. But it did not detract from the canyon itself and we would go back again.

We took this tour to get an overview of Maui. I was limited physically this trip and this was a safe excursion. For people from Florida, it was also pretty boring. Most of what we saw, we have in Florida. The lunch provided was very nice, however. People from northern states, however, seemed to be impressed by the flowers, fish etc.
