Alaska Inside Passage (South)
This was our first cruise and seemingly will probably be the last. Upon embarkation in Seward everything seemed fine. Walked the entire ship to become familiar with where things were. The first 2 days of the cruise were spectacular - sea voyage on day one and Glacier Bay National park on day 2. The scenery was incredible.
Beginning on day 3 the quality of the food on the Lido deck started to deterioriate. Dry fish, mac & cheese that was dry and tasteless. Seems as though they were recycling everything from day to day but after you burn something or its dried out from reheating numerous times you should dispose of it and not try to continually serve it.
The main dining room - The Rotterdam was very nice, plesant surroundings. Food again was sub par and this was supposed to be something that was prepared fresh. Very disappointing. The week ended up being religated to going to the burger and hot dog bar on the Lido deck by the pool or getting something to eat in More town when in port.
The entertainment left something to be desired. Felt that it should have been better based on the reviews of Holland America. Everything we had heard touted Holland America as the best of the best of the cruise lines. After this experience and a ship with a very outdated decor i would beg to differ.
The staff on board was for the most part very accomodating and helpful. The staff in the Lido buffett was less so. everything was rush, ruch, rush to get folks through the lines and trying to hand you your plate before you are done making selections - every sentence ended with "you done?" or "anything else?"
If we ever take another crusie it will most definitely not be with Holland America and will also definitely not go on that small of a ship again. Less
