Sail Date: Apr 2014

We were on the 1st sailing of the Viking Kvasir, one of the new long boats. We are fairly new to cruising having taken only Crystal and Azamara before. We were excited to take Viking and were not disappointed as it is perfection from start to finish. They pick you up at the airport upon arrival and take you to the ticket counter when you fly out. We took the pre cruise stay in Amsterdam at the Moevenpick hotel. It met all expectations as did the Viking tours. We did a walking tour and saw the tulip farm and garden prior to embarking on the ship. Our entire cruise down the Rhine, Main Canal and Danube could not have been better. We saw villages, cities, palaces, castles and many historic spots for 15 days. We learned many details about World War II and Medieval history all along the way, which was our plan and it all delivered. We traveled with old friends from our hometown in Kansas and met new friends as well. We made great memories with our new friends from Kansas and Texas and will always be in touch.

The Viking ship was delightful in every way. The rooms were small but perfect and well designed. No detail left out as far as bathroom, closet, storage, comfortable bedding and technology. We did choose a balcony room which was great as we went through over 80 locks and they added to the interest. The Viking chef, Karlheinz, was aboard giving more than expected creative food selections. Our captain & his wife, the Cruise Director Marianne, the Concierge and crew were above expectations. We even want to congratulate the bartender Roman, cocktail waitress Szonja, our cabin stewardess, Sorina, and especially our waiter Georgi. Georgi appreciated out humor and tended to our every need and laugh. We disembarked in Budapest and were transferred by Viking to Prague where once again, were treated to every detail by Viking. We were sad to leave after 21 days but plan to return to Viking Cruises.

Cabin Review

Cabin Verandah

I would highly recommend a verandah room on Viking on the Rhine and Danube itinerary. The views are better and the experience of the locks are interesting. They are smaller than ocean liner balconies but one can still sit in chairs to experience the river trips.
