The Kaiser Family French Cruise and Paris Adventure

Sail Date: April 2014
Destination: France
Embarkation: Paris

We reside in Larkspur, California a small town in the County of Marin just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. My wife and I (my wife in particular) were looking forward to returning to France after our last visit in 2001.

We had heard about the Viking Travel lines via a travel agent. To take advantage of special pricing opportunities we booked our passage on Viking nearly a year earlier.

From San Francisco we took a connecting flight to Los Angeles International Airport to where we were directed to another terminal from where our Air France Air Bus 380 would take us to Paris. We were very fortunate in being abl;e to take advantage of an upgrade to business class by Air France.

The flight and service on Air France was absolutely suburb! The voyage was most comfortable and the food and beverages offered were excellent.

Upon arrival at CDG airport our processing through customs was prompt, the officials most courteous, and our meeting with More Viking representatives went without a hitch. We were promptly taken to our ship, given our room assignments along with staff introductions.

Later, we were given a tour of some Paris' important sites, particularly along Notre Dame, with a lecture as to the historical significance of the area. From that half day excursion we returned to ship where we were treated to a wonderful meal and the opportunity to meet various fellow voyagers.

The port and shore excursions were fascinating (Giverney, Rouen, Omaha Beach, Conflans, etc.).

Frankly, the entire voyage was well organized and there are more than enough activities to fill the day. We appreciate the efforts of Anika, our Recreational Director; Beate, our Maitre D' Hotel; our chef Pablo; ;our captain, Fanzy; and the attentive ship service staff which also includes those who managed and maintained the ship).

Our first class room was a delight and it was fascinating to see the french countryside move on by through our bedroom window during the night. The ambiance of that room, along with the fabulous meals and entertainment offered were the best.

Our departure from the ship was bittersweet as over just a few days we had become attached to the ship and the crew. It was as though we were leaving our family.

With Viking we had made arrangements for an extended stay but one in which we had selected a hotel in the Latin Quarter which had been recommended by a family friend. The transfer from the disembarkation point to that hotel went fairly smoothly despite our limited language skills. The hotel was lovely and the our additional week's stay was also delightful.

Everything seemed to work out quite well up to and including our flight home from Paris. Viking had helped secure our flight home via a direct Air France Flight to San Francisco, very close to our home. Less
