Our cruise was everything we'd hoped for and then some. We traveled with friends but made new ones each night at dinner. The excursions were well organized and perfectly timed making good use of every moment. The meals were excellent and the service impeccable. Having only ocean cruises in large ships to compare this to I was pleasantly surprised by being able to leave the ship in the afternoon or evening and revisit some of the sights of each port city. In Vienna we easily traveled back into the city to explore on our own and enjoy the local market - a feast for eyes, ears and taste buds! The accommodations (we had a balcony) were quite adequate and in fact more comfortable than I'd expected with a modern bath and fabulous shower. Our Viking cruise was the perfect vacation - we relaxed, we saw amazing sites, feasted on gourmet cuisine and local fare and met new friends. Travel transfers were punctual and easy. Before boarding the Njord we spent 3 days in Prague on a Viking excursion. That too was very well organized. It allowed us to explore on our own, get a real sense of the city and pop into the local restaurants.

The guides employed by Viking at every port including our Prague excursion were local citizens with a vast knowledge of each city's history and culture. This made the tours much more personal and informative. Each guide was very willing to answer any question and each was fluent in English making conversation and questioning very easy.

This vacation is not for everyone. If you are seeking abundant night life into the early morning hours you need to look elsewhere. However if you are happy with cocktails before dinner, amazing, well-prepared meals complemented by wonderful wines and interesting conversation and followed by an hour or two of low-key fun, then Viking is just your style.
