This is our third cruise and first with Celebrity. We choose Celebrity because of the 7 day itinerary they offered and the mostly positive. I guess that either the level of satisfaction has been lowered because our overall experience with a so called upper class cruise line was average at the best and below,what we have previously experienced Princess and only slightly above Norwegian.
Prior to the cruise we had several problems accessing the Celebrity website and when trying to contact the cruise line via telephone it was a minimum wait of an hour or more. Unacceptable
We arrived at the Venice port only to experienced a long wait again and generally a system that really did not make sense.
Once on the ship we relaxed in the buffet area and had not problems finding a seat in the stern area of the ship. the sailing out of Venice was spectacular. When we finally went to our room we found it quite nice roomy and plenty storage space. We where in room 7250.
The first evening we booked a specialty restaurant, the Murano. Words cannot describe, it was fantastic, food and service exceeded our expectations.
The remaining nights we ate in the main dining room. The staff was great however the food was well below par as was the wine. My wife and I enjoy a mid sweetness white wine and had 1 chose. It was good but would have been nice to see a better selections. The appetizers were okay nothing special. I am still trying how they slice some of the beef and scallops so thin, you could see right through them, Amy of the Big Bang would grade their thinness an A +. The main coarse was generally okay but did not have the wow factor. Desserts again again just okay, the baked Alaskan was a real disappointment.
The buffet, mainly for breakfast was okay but really why do they use egg beater for their omelette tasted like cardboard. The rest of the selection was okay, nothing to set it apart from any other cruise line. The coffee in the buffet was poor. Also found the staff at the stern end outside non existent at times.
The coffee bar was fantastic, coffee great, desserts great and the staff absolute fantastic.
The shows exceeded our expectation, well done.
Overall staff was great however found anyone wearing a uniform with more than 2 stripes to have their nose a little high.
Biggest pet peeves elevator were horrible and poorly programmed. Also unable to hear announcements in one's room. To hear you had to be in a common area or the hall way, kind of useless if you are in your room.
Disembarking did not disappoint and was as poorly run as the embarking.
