Perfect Family Getaway

Sail Date: June 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

Our family of four (51, 49, 16, 11) just got back from a seven day cruise on the Getaway and couldn't have been more impressed. We are fairly seasoned cruisers and have been on several different lines but would have to say that Getaway tops 'em all. Here's a quick rundown by category:

SHIP: Very clean, attractive and easy to navigate. Public spaces are abundant and, while the ship was full, it never felt overcrowded.

CABINS: We had one balcony and one inside cabin and found both to be well designed. There's plenty of storage, good AC, and smart, efficient bathrooms. Yes, the balconies are small, but not as bad as some have made them out to be. My wife and I loved having a cup of coffee out there in the morning.

SERVICE: Excellent. We've sailed with Norwegian before (Epic) and found the service a bit lacking, but that was not the case on Getaway. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: The waterslides are a blast--especially More the two where the floor drops out from beneath you. It's a serious adrenaline rush. The ropes course is fantastic, and the mini-golf could be too except they need to use real balls! (They use soft ones that are so light the wind blows them all over the course.)

FOOD: While this has my biggest criticism of Norwegian in the past, they have seriously stepped it up on this ship! The food was excellent-even in the main dining areas, so we never felt forced to use the specialty restaurants (as we have in the past.) All the dining rooms are beautifully appointed-and the Tropicana Room is absolutely stunning. My favorite venue on any ship!

ENTERTAINMENT: Norwegian always excels in this area and Getaway is no exception. The Illusionarium show is terrific, and so is Legally Blonde. My family always loves Howl-at-the-Moon, and the Comedy shows were top notch. (Landry was absolutely hilarious!) We even got to see the movie Frozen in 3-D which was a fun bonus.

PORTS/EXCURSIONS: Since we've been to these same islands several times before, we pretty much did our own thing so it's probably not fair to comment.

All in all, Getaway absolutely exceeded our expectations and I highly recommend it for active families like ours. It offers something for everyone, and any choice you make seems to be the right one. Way to go Norwegian! Less
