Traveled with children

We recently returned from a 5 night Enchantment of the Seas journey. My husband, myself and our three children (boy-14, girl-5, girl-almost two) where we had a wonderful time. We were traveling with my Husbands family (Mother, Stepfather and his three adult children and their kids) 19 of us total. Our family of five was in a Royal Family Suite while everyone else was in oceanview stateroom on deck three. We found that the priority treatment that comes with a concierge room was very helpful--this was the first time we cruised concierge. Priority boarding was a plus with little ones and there were very few people getting on at the same time as us. We were able to book Chops and get soda packages with no line...in fact there was no one around at all. We preceded to go have lunch at the Windjammer witch was virtually untouched yet and had nearly empty dining room seating. After lunch we preceded to our room at exactly 1:30pm. At this point we called the rest of our group who were just heading up to get on the ship! We were very pleased with our suite. Five hundred and some sq feet of comfort. Our son delighted in choosing his pillows from the menu. Our attendant arrived to welcome us and it was the first of many pleasant experiences. In fact, one of the nicest things about this journey was our attendant, Kenroy. There was a fruit platter and a large bottle of Evian. The mini fridge was stocked nicely. Complimentary robes and slippers and very nice bath toiletries (replenished daily) were all there. We felt the room was in very nice shape, very clean, and decorated nicely. One thing though, it never seemed to get as cool as we would have liked no matter how low we turned down the A/C. Shortly after our luggage arrived, followed by Julian, the concierge. What a charismatic gentleman this fellow was! He explained that he could make arrangement s for us for anything we needed (he made in room babysitting arrangements right then for our Chops night) and told us about the concierge lounge..continental breakfast, snacks, evening hors douvers and complimentary open bar from 5pm until 8pm. He also gave us keys to the lounge and personalized stationary. We then registered our 5 year old for the children's activity center. Our "Aquanaut" LOVED the club and the instructors...Mike, Kelly, Claudia and Astro were all fantastic. Our sometimes shy little one was even in the talent show singing for the whole crowd. Our first dinner was fine...took the suggestions of our attentive waiter and enjoyed our even more attentive asst waiter Rommel. The girls were kept busy with portable DVD players (one for each) The food was good, not exceptional and afterwards we checked out the kids arcade. My son was disappointed there were few kids his age. In fact there were not alot of kids at all. Although it was during school. As we were all tired we returned to our room and settled in. Now we travel alot and I have just resigned myself that the beds are never really comfortable wherever you go but I have to say our was heavenly! With our isotonic and body pillows and very comfortable duvet we had a wonderful night sleep.

Our second day we had the buffet breakfast at the Windjammer. We slept in and found that if you get to close to buffet closing time you better get it all on one trip. They began taking the food down about 25 minutes before it was supposed to close. Breakfast was good although the shrimp in my omelet had a scent that made me decide not to eat it. We headed out to the pool and found we were actually able to get a couple of lounge chairs (at 11am!) and got into the pool---slowly! as it was very cold! The little ones loved the splash zone although I don't think there was very much to it. It was a little disappointing as we thought it was more than just a few squirting jets and there is nothing else for kids, (slides or fountains etc) Also there was alot of wind on this trip so most of the time they didn't have the jets on. Nevertheless, the kids had a great time. We all loved the jacuzzi and the Calypso band. Had an uneventful lunch, lots to choose from at the buffet but most things aside from the little premade sandwiches were pretty tasteless. I would have liked to have tried the dining room lunch but we felt it was best to have our little ones only have to do one big sit down meal a day. The baby napped after lunch...ok, so did I, and the 5 year old was in the oceaneer club having a ball. Later at dinner we got to our table to find our drinks and appetizers (fruit) for the girls all set up. There were even spaces made for the DVD players. Excellent service again and good food. Arriving in Jamaica the next day we debated getting off the ship. We didn't plan an excursion and didn't have a lot of interest but thought we'd just get a trinket or something. We followed the advice from crew members and forged our way through the hordes of peddlers, taxi drivers and hair braiders who have some difficulty in understanding "no thank you". We were told to get off, turn right and go the village shopping area, and lo and behold as soon as we entered none of the peddlers followed. There was a lot of security guarding the entrance. a few nick nacks and tee shirts, a coke at Margaritaville, and we headed back to the ship.

Early in the evening I stopped in the concierge lounge to ask Julian to book an excursion for my son the next day. He wanted to do the snorkel/stingray/reef/seven mile beach with lunch with his uncle the next day. Additionally he booked the rest of on a seven mile beach break. While there I checked out the lovely assortment of snacks. Procuitto and melon, shrimp on brioche, chocolate covered strawberries, fruit trays, cheese trays and hot items such as chicken wings and fried mushrooms and cocktail meatballs. Also the full bar. Later that evening our sitter, Elizabeth arrived. She was very nice and the girls liked her right away. We headed to Chops when the food was excellent (finally!) The filets were cooked just right (med rare) and service was outstanding. A trip to the casino afterwards resulted in a little loss at the poker table..though we won $200 in the long run. Grand Cayman was better than Jamaica with less people hounding you. We took a taxi ($20) to seven mile beach where we all had a great time and met up with the rest of our group. We headed back later in the day and wished we were going back to Chops...though we enjoyed the dining room dinner. We spent the next day (at sea) by the pool or at the Oceaneer club. Our son climber the rock wall a few times and he really enjoyed just coming and going as he pleased. We disembarked with the same ease as embarkation: first and quickly. WE waited with a small group of other concierge guests in the main dining room until Julian came to escort us off. We were outof the building with our luggage, in our transportation by 8:40. We watched from the window of our air conditioned vehicle as the crowd came out in waves. The rest of our party did not arrive out for another hour and 45 minutes. All in all we enjoyed ourselves very much and can really say the staff was one of the most exceptional aspects. We will return to this ship again.
