We were on the Windstar week of June 7 to 14,2014 Istanbul to Athens.
It’s a great itinerary, Istanbul, Kusadasi ( for Ephesus & surrounding area), Rhodes (Old City is terrific), Bodrum ( we toured Castle & went to Bitez beach via dolmus-bus), Santorini (Oia), Mykonos then finishing up in Athens. Every port stop was just wonderful.
The ship experience is different (better) than large mainstream cruise lines (we’ve done Celebrity, RCL, Norwegian & Holland). It’s a very intimate environment with only 140 other guests. We got to know at least half the people by name over the course of the week.
What Windstar obviously can’t replicate are the hundreds of possibilities & options that a 5000 passenger mega ship can offer.
However what they do do they do very well.
The food was very good.
The service was impeccable.
The cabin was very adequate & functional.
It’s promoted as a Yacht & you did feel at many times that you were sailing on a private yacht.
We had extended stays (until 10 or 11PM in a number of ports) which allowed more time for touring on land.
My only critique, there are no elevators on board. This was fine for us but if you have mobility issues you should be mindful of this. I also feel that Windstar could have been more explicit about this during the booking process.
Highly recommend Windstar, we had a wonderful week & it’s a great choice for the eastern Med (Greece & Turkey)
