First time cruiser-lessons learned

Sail Date: June 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

We just returned from our RCCL cruise and had a great time...so much so that we've already booked our next cruise. The ship was awesome!! Recently renovated, the rooms and public areas are beautiful, clean and comfortable. Plenty of activitives on board, and lots of places to just relax and unwind.

First, we chose a Promenade room to save a little money, and this is something we would not do again. If you are a light sleeper or hope to turn in early, be prepared for noise...and lots of it. Cabin 6279 was a good size, comfortable and nicely appointed. BUT, the constant blaring of music and activity from the Promenade lasted until midnight or later and was annoying to say the least!

We had wonderful meals in the main dining room, as well as at Sabor and Chops. The only disappointment was lobster night...tough and tasteless. Don't expect sweet and succulent Maine lobster.

The comedy shows and adults only shows were the most fun!! Lots of laughs to be had at all More three. The ice show and the Texas Tenors were not our cup of tea, but lots and lots of people enjoyed them. The casino was fun...and one fellow cruiser won over 30K on a slot machine.

This is a great itinerary for all ages!! Less

Port and Shore Excursions

ATV Adventure

FUN, FUN, FUN!!! Take mosquito repellent and be prepared for a bone jarring ride.

We did not book an excursion and instead decided to just walk around the port. RCCL has done a great job with their port...numerous shops for souveniers and a handful of places to eat. Margaritaville was great with good food and entertainment. Take your swimsuit as they have a nice pool area where you can relax and cool off. Wifi is $10 in the Port area and a little spotty, but better then venturing outside the port gates and into the hornets nest that is Falmouth.

Snorkeling

Beautiful waters and skilled crew made for tons of fun!!! Next time I will take my own snorkel rather than use theirs which appeared to just be dipped in a bucket of water after the last person used it.
