Ship Facts: Norwegian Star Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Star Deck Plans
Not bad, not great

Did the Baltic Capitals cruise in 06/2104, leaving out of Copenhagen. Embarkation was smooth and quick, luggage delivered to the room very quickly. Cabin was a little smaller than we are used to, although the bathroom was bigger. Someone else complained about the bunk bed on the wall, we also had issues with this, bumping heads and backs regularly getting our of bed. Cabin steward was attentive, but unobtrusive, did a nice job keeping cabin clean and stocked.

Rostock: We were very disappointed with this stop. Apparently, the Star usually berths at Warnemunde, and we were expecting to be able to walk to the town, then take a shuttle or taxi to Rostock. However, we berthed at a commercial port that wasn't close to anything, and had to pay NCL $20 per person for a shuttle to Rostock. To make matters worse, this was apparently the first time the Star had docked there, and none of the crew or staff seemed to know anything about it.

Tallin: Beautiful town, relatively easy walk to town from the pier, nice day, beautiful weather.

St. Petersburg: This was the only port we did a shore excursion, did the Pushkin/Hermitage tour, which was nice, but had to fight huge crowds everywhere we went.

Helsinki: Rained all day. We did the Hop on bus, which was fine except for unusually long waits for buses at every stop. At one stop, we had time to go into a local restaurant, have a light snack and a beer, and still waited an additional 20 minutes for a bus.

Stockholm: Absolutely beautiful city. We did the Hop On boat, which was much cheaper than the bus and took us everywhere we wanted to go in comfort.

Dining: We ate at the Versailles dining room every night, and the food was good, but not great. Chef's Specialties were usually nothing special, quality of service and of food was inconsistent. I had French Onion soup every night, sometimes it was piping hot, sometimes lukewarm. Didn't get what we ordered several times, usually just a lack on communication. Ate lunch and breakfast at the Blue Lagoon several times, sometimes good, sometimes awful.

Entertainment: Not the quality I expected. Some acts were pretty good (4Ever comes to mind), some were just amateurish.

Disembarkation: Couldn't have been smoother. We had an early flight so were 3rd to be called, made it to the airport in great time.

Summary: Not a bad cruise, we did have a good time and the above complaints are relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. However, cruising is not what it used to be, and I'm not a big fan of NCL's "Freestyle" cruising.
