Fabulous Family Fun on the Freedom
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Our family of twelve just returned from the 5 night sailing on the Freedom. Six adults and six teens ranging from 13 to 17. We really had a great time!
Embarkation was very easy. We purchased FTTF since we were traveling with my parents and did not want to have them wait in long lines. We were dropped at the port by Park n Go, which I highly recommend, checked in and on the ship in 20 minutes. Some of us had passports and some just used birth certificates. As soon as we boarded we were greeted and told our rooms were ready. That was nice not having to carry around our things.
Our room was very clean the entire sailing. Deck six, starboard. We were greeted by our room steward when we first came to the room and he did a great job all week long. My family of six had adjoining cabins and it worked great. One room was set up for the four kids and the other for my husband and myself. The steward opened up the balcony separators between all four of our families rooms and it More was nice. Only had a problem with one of the rooms shower not draining. It ran over the edge and took more than an hour to drain completely. We reported the problem and they came but it never improved. Overall, we were very happy with our cabins.
The food was really good. We ate each night in the Posh dining room upper level for the second seating. People were dressed all different ways and it didn't bother me in the least. Its there vacation. Adrian and Hector, our servers, were wonderful! They took great care of our party of twelve and knew us by name after the first night. Even out on the island when they saw us. Really great guys! We did eat at the steakhouse on formal night and enjoyed it. Service was superb, food was yummy and the atmosphere was a delight. There was even a magician that came by the table and performed for the kids. The buffet food was fine. Any time we got something it was warm and fresh. Kids loved the all you can eat ice cream! We ate breakfast in the dining room a few of the mornings including the at sea brunch. That was a particularly great breakfast! Guys Burgers was the favorite place of our teens, especially the 3 boys. They ate there 3-4 times throughout each day. No kidding! The burgers and fries were yummy!
Only two exceptions to the food for us. Fish and chips was very greasy and cold. And the burrito bar. We tried it twice and both times it was cold and blah.
We enjoyed a lot of the shows and entertainment. Cruise director Skip was very funny. The love and marriage show was hilarious, especially the couple married 48 years. We loved them! The Hasbro game show was fun. Our favorite production was 88 Keys. The performers did a great job. Loved the guy from the Piano bar. We are not drinkers but enjoyed going to listen to him. Bingo was fun for the whole family and of course we lost some money in the casino. One of our family members was one of the few who was able to lift out the stack on $100 in the claw machine. There were 2 comedians on board and our favorite was Machio (SIC). He was really funny in both the adults only and family times.
We stopped at three ports. First was Nassau. We honeymooned here 25 years ago and I can say it is definitely worn out its charm. We didn't do any excursions. Just explored on our own. Visited the straw market, ate lunch at Senor Frogs, and then met a cabbie named "Mel Gibson" on our way back to the ship. He gave us a short tour of the island which turned out to be the highlight of our stop there. He was very funny and told us all kinds of stories. Our second stop was at Half Moon Cay. It was our favorite stop. Day started a little rough due to tendering process and rough seas. We were on the first tender because we rented a villa and were on the beach by 9:30 a.m. Villa was a smart move for us. It allowed my parents to be down on the beach with us for the day. It was set up when we got there with fruit, veggies, chips and dips, and drinks. Very clean. We selected B and I was a little nervous due to other reviews but it was perfect. Very close to the barbecue and we had no problems with people around us. When the afternoon storm rolled in we had the villa to stay in as it passed. If you have a large group or older folks that you want to be down on the beach with you, the villa is well worth it. The last stop was Grand Turk. Beautiful place. We booked a snorkeling excursion independently with Papa J's Tours. They were wonderful and the snorkeling was great. Nice that only ten of us on the boat. My parents explored a little of Grand Turk instead. We saw lots of colorful fish, touched a shark, and saw a barracuda swimming around. The big drop off was amazing. Would definitely do this again.
We had early disembarkation with FTTF and did self assist. We were in our cars and on the road at 7 a.m.
Our family had a wonderful cruise and look forward to the next one. We highly recommend the Freedom. We made memories that will last a lifetime together! Less

Cabin review: 6283 & 6285
Family of 6 with two adjoining rooms. Very clean, lots of storage space. Traveled with two other families. Our rooms were next to each other so they opened up all the balcony separators and we had a nice long balcony. Beds were comfortable, couch bed was comfy, and the pull down bed was as well.
Port and Shore Excursions
Great time and the guides were very knowledgeable. Loved that it was just the 10 of us on the boat.
Our favorite place! Would have loved to stay for a few days. The beach is spectacular!
