Cruised the carnival sensation with my family--20 people. VIP check-in was a breeze. The ship is old but enjoyable. The children (ages 9-15) enjoyed the pools and the camps. This was my first time exploring the port without booking an excursion. BIG MISTAKE! The locals were aggressive from the taxi stand to the beach to the jet ski activity. By-passing the normal excursions from the ship allowed us the opportunity to ride jet ski (not offered by Carnival). However, the service was poor.
Back to the Sensation---overall it wasn't a bad trip. They accommodated our large party with rooms and dinner. The shows were great. The gym was ok-- need more air/ventilation. Running the treadmill or elliptical gets really hot. Some of the machines were old. But, the gym wasn't overcrowded--- which was nice. The food is typical cruise food so don't expect GREAT-- just 'pretty good'. The pool area was not overcrowded until the full day at sea so plan a spa day or shows instead of the pool. There wasn't a dedicated area for the younger kids at the pool so it may have irritated the adults later in the evening (9pm--) to see young kids still in the pool and hot tub.
Overall, I enjoyed the cruise. Rooms were clean and service was polite. Just don't expect luxury on this ship.
